2025 Driver of the Year Award Announcement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has named Kathy Blaies, a professional carhauler with United Road, as the recipient of the 2025 Driver of the Year Award, sponsored by Walmart.

Recognition for Excellence

“Kathy was chosen for her significant contributions to the trucking sector, her steadfast commitment to safety, and her dedication to mentoring, especially women in the industry,” stated Jennifer Hedrick, WIT’s president and CEO.

Finalists for the Award

Blaies was one of four finalists considered for this prestigious award.

The other finalists include:

A Journey of Resilience

Kathy’s career in trucking began with car hauling. Initially discouraged about her prospects in the industry, she surpassed expectations, gaining respect for her exceptional driving abilities and her willingness to assist others. She frequently mentors newcomers, guiding them through the challenges of car hauling and helping them achieve success.

Outstanding Achievements

Beyond her driving skills, Blaies’ professionalism and leadership have garnered her several accolades, according to a WIT press release. With over one million safe driving miles under her belt, she is a four-time winner of the Gold Elite Award and a two-time recipient of the Damage-Free Elite Award from United Road, highlighting her consistent commitment to excellence.

Praise from Leadership

Her exemplary performance has been recognized by peers and company leaders. Mark Anderson, United Road’s president and CEO, expressed his admiration: “Kathy’s remarkable performance reflects her personal drive for excellence and her positive influence on our operations. She is an exceptional driver whose commitment and leadership make her worthy of this honor.”

A Celebrated Recognition

The announcement was made during the Salute to Women Behind the Wheel event at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, KY, which celebrates female commercial drivers for their contributions and successes.

Walmart’s Support

Sponsored by Walmart, the annual Driver of the Year Award aims to acknowledge the achievements of female professional drivers leading the industry in safety while enhancing the public image of trucking. Ryan McDaniel, Walmart’s senior vice president of transportation, stated, “Walmart is proud to sponsor this award. Kathy Blaies is not just a driver but also a leader, mentor, and role model. We are honored to recognize her as this year’s Driver of the Year.”

The judging panel included Lisa Dilibero, general transportation manager at Walmart; Lori Taylor, financial operations director at C.H. Robinson; and Ellen Voie, founder of WIT.
