Charges Filed Against Contract Employee and Truck Driver for Oilfield Equipment Theft
Oklahoma authorities have charged a contract worker and a truck driver in connection with the theft of oilfield equipment.
On March 12, 2026, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) announced that Clyde Thompson, 48, and Marvin Rogers, 63, are facing charges of Larceny of Oilfield Equipment (exceeding $15,000), Criminal Conspiracy, and Engaging in a Pattern of Criminal Offenses.
The investigation began when Ovintiv Energy contacted the OSBI on June 9, 2025, requesting an inquiry into the theft of oilfield equipment.
Ovintiv Energy’s internal investigation suggested that a contract employee was responsible for stealing equipment from drilling sites across several counties, including Dewey, Blaine, Kingfisher, Canadian, Grady, McClain, Stephens, and Garvin.
By analyzing invoices, Ovintiv discovered a significant amount of oilfield pipe was unaccounted for in an area overseen by Thompson. The missing pipe had been taken from wells and should have been either stored or moved to another well, but there were no records of its transportation.
Agents from the OSBI interviewed local farmers and a steel company, finding that Thompson allegedly sold 2,000 joints of pipe to them.
According to OSBI, “Investigators uncovered that most of the missing pipe from Ovintiv’s drilling sites was transported by Monster Services, with Rogers as the driver. During an interview, Rogers confessed to falsifying load tickets while transporting equipment for Thompson. Invoices from Monster Trucking showed that the transport of the stolen pipe cost Ovintiv about $43,000. Rogers confirmed the pipe’s delivery locations based on the load tickets he had prepared.”
Thompson and Rogers voluntarily surrendered to the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office following the issuance of an arrest warrant.
“The OSBI expresses gratitude to Ovintiv Energy and the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office for their continued cooperation throughout this investigation,” the agency remarked.
