Fraudulent Insurance Scheme Credited to Arrest in South Florida

In South Florida, law enforcement has disrupted a fraudulent insurance operation aimed at tow truck businesses, leading to the capture of a licensed insurance agent and his partner.

On February 5, 2026, Javier Gonzalez Jr., a certified professional, and Aliba Lamas Alvarez were arrested following an investigation by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) Criminal Investigation Division.

The inquiry focused on 24 commercial insurance policies for tow trucks. Officials claim that the pair sold policies to business owners that contained falsified details.

These inaccuracies were allegedly used to satisfy legal insurance limits, resulting in policyholders having invalid coverage. Investigators highlighted that while Gonzalez possessed a valid license, Lamas Alvarez was operating without the necessary legal authorization to sell insurance in Florida.

Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia stated, “My administration has a zero-tolerance policy for fraud, particularly by criminal illegal aliens. Our law enforcement division will persist in arresting these fraudsters.”

Gonzalez Jr. faces charges for filing false insurance claims and orchestrating a scheme to defraud. According to state records, Lamas Alvarez is identified as an undocumented individual presently living illegally in the U.S., a factor emphasized in the crackdown on unauthorized activities.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office will oversee the prosecution of this case. The current DFS administration has heightened its efforts against insurance-related offenses, resulting in 60 arrests of undocumented individuals involved in various fraudulent tactics. State officials continue to encourage the public to verify their agents’ credentials and report any suspicious practices through the FraudFreeFlorida portal.
