Daimler Truck Financial Services Introduces Innovative Insurance and Leasing Solutions

Daimler Truck Financial Services (DTFS) has launched new insurance and leasing options that leverage telematics technology to provide fleets with enhanced savings and adaptability. In collaboration with High Definition Vehicle Insurance (HDVI), DTFS offers Dynamic Insurance, a service designed to help fleets lower their rates while encouraging safe driving practices.

Features of Dynamic Insurance

Dynamic Insurance uses advanced telematics technology to deliver competitively priced insurance with extensive coverage, flexible payment plans, improved coverage options, and no surprise fees. It includes features that allow fleets to set safety objectives, benchmark their performance, and engage with drivers. This combination of driver safety and technology can help reduce monthly premiums for customers.

Insurance Based on Driver Behavior

Tobias Waldeck, VP of Sales & Marketing, explained that Dynamic Insurance bases liability premiums on data gathered from electronic logging devices and in-cab cameras. “You essentially pay for how your drivers drive,” he noted. The service provides a competitive base rate, with potential discounts of up to 12% for safe driving, ensuring that premiums never exceed that base rate.

Importance of Dash Cameras

Telematics data used for calculating premiums includes factors such as geolocation, time of day, mileage, critical safety events like speeding or hard braking, and dash camera footage. Waldeck emphasized the importance of dash cams, stating that research revealed that many accidents lead to disputes in court, and front-facing cameras provide essential evidence.

Enhanced Safety Initiatives

In addition to insurance, HDVI collaborates with fleet customers to identify areas for safety program improvements, backed by data analysis. The program also offers a library of educational videos to help drivers stay informed about safety topics, further showcasing the fleets’ commitment to safety.

Targeting Smaller Fleets

DTFS has partnered with HDVI to create a product that addresses a gap in the market for liability insurance. Currently available in 17 states, the focus is primarily on smaller fleets with fewer than 100 trucks, sold through Daimler’s dealerships under the branding of Freightliner Dynamic Insurance.

Introducing Dynamic Lease

Dynamic Insurance is the second dynamic offering from DTFS, joining Dynamic Lease, which utilizes telematics data for customized customer solutions. Dynamic Lease calculates payments based on actual mileage, allowing fleets better cash flow management and avoiding large end-lease fees. Waldeck noted early success with five new customers signed within a month, emphasizing its appeal to seasonal businesses, high-mileage team drivers, and fleets adapting to economic uncertainties.
